OHMS has a variety of sports available for seventh and eighth grade students. As a member of the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), we participate in the Northwest Middle School Athletic League (NWMSL), competing in four seasons with seventh and eighth grade teams from Skagit County. Oak Harbor Middle School offers varsity programs only; we do not have junior varsity teams. Because we are limited by the number of students who may participate in each sport, there is potential for a selection process in the first two weeks of each season’s practice.

Eligibility

TO PARTICIPATE IN ATHLETICS, STUDENTS MUST:

  • have a current physical on file prior to practice;

  • complete the Middle School Athletic Code paperwork (with parent permission);

  • purchase an ASB card ($15.00);

  • pay an activity fee when selected for the team**:

    • $75.00 for the first sport

    • $35.00 for the second sport

    • and $0 for the third and fourth sport

  • maintain the academic and behavior standards specified in the Athletic Code

     ** After team selections are made, the activity fee must be paid before a student is allowed to compete or participate further in a sport. Fees are paid directly to Mrs. Fitzgerald in the school office. The office will give the student a receipt, and the student is responsible for showing the receipt to the coach, indicating that they have paid their fee. The district does not have a hardship fund; however, students who are in dire need of financial assistance should speak to their coach and/or the athletic director, Ms Gewald, jgewald@ohsd.net

     All participants in Middle School sports fall under OHSD Board Policy 4513.  Please review this policy if you have any questions concerning eligibility.
